Situated on SW Multnomah Boulevard, it draws a steady mix of locals dropping in for a morning fix or a casual midday snack. The atmosphere leans into a warm, inviting vibe with touches of rustic charm, making it a relaxed spot for neighborhood meetups or solo coffee breaks.

The bakery side of things stands out with hearty, thoughtfully crafted breakfast sandwiches like the bacon and egg croissant with tomato relish or the sausage and egg biscuit that balance flaky breads with well-seasoned fillings. Pastries such as the Monkey Muffin and pumpkin cream cheese muffin carry a homemade character that fits well with the coffee offerings. Speaking of coffee, regulars appreciate the variety of espresso drinks available—from classic cappuccinos to vanilla or latte macchiatos—served with care and often accompanied by friendly, attentive staff.

This café thrives on its role as a comfortable spot where people take their time, whether to grab a quick coffee with a biscuit or linger over breakfast. Free coffee refills for dine-in guests add to the appeal for those who want to stick around, read, or catch up with friends. Weekday mornings tend to see a good crowd of commuters and office workers, while weekends fill with families and groups seeking a laid-back brunch experience.

Locally, Grand Central Bakery also serves as a reliable destination for gifting and catering, with berry-packed coffee cakes and other baked goods that reinforce its reputation beyond the café setting. The integration of sustainable practices, including BCorp certification, resonates with Portland’s values and adds a layer of community-mindedness to the experience.

Overall, it’s a spot best suited for those who appreciate filling, well-made breakfasts paired with quality coffee in a casual, neighborhood-supported environment. Whether stopping by for a quick sandwich or settling in to savor the sourdough or hearty sandwiches, visitors can expect a steady pace and service that respects the morning ritual without rushing it.

Bakery with some really good options. Especially liked the bacon and egg croissant with the tomato relish. It was busy but relatively quick to serve the food. Very friendly and helpful staff. A fun place to return to.

Great atmosphere great breakfast goodies Excellent was to start the day. Update: it's been over two years since we, as a family, broke bread together at a table inside a Grand Central Bakery. It was nice ... felt nostalgic to dine at the blond birch table with the oversized pictures of chickens watching us ... food is the same - well crafted, satisfying and rich but they don't have the tray of butter and home-made jam out, and only one container of cream ( no 2%, oat, soy ) available. Prices have gone up min 25%. So the same but restrained feeling. Glad they made it thru the pandemic. Updated Update: after 16 years still the best artisan bread and hearty breakfast treats in the city. It is expensive with all hot drinks $4 and up and all small treats $4 and up and loaves of bread $5 and up ... so it's a $40 simple breakfast for a family of 4. But it is delish.

Cool local bakery with good sandwiches and coffee! Enjoyed it very very much. Love their biscuits. They are crunchy like a scone but definitely have a great biscuit flavor.

Breakfast sandwiches were great! Free coffee refills for dine in. The sourdough was to die for and didn't make it home, despite taking it in a to-go bag. We ordered the frittata sandwich and the rashers English muffin.

Our law office, Bridge City Law, ordered 50 berry coffee cakes for gifts this year. They are fantastic. We’ve received rave comments. The topping is flavorful and it’s packed with berries. We couldn’t be happier. Happy to say that Grand Central is also B-Corp, like us. I can tell you it’s no small feat to accomplish!
